Post PhotographyBB Pumpkin Carving Challenge 2008
Welcome to the first PhotographyBB Digital Pumpkin Carving Challenge!

We're going to make this an annual event, so lets have some fun with this one. Since digital pumpkins don't dry out, we're going to kick this event off early this year, to give you all plenty of time to experiment and challenge yourselves with this one.

Here are the rules:

1) This is just for fun (sorry, no prizes - just glory here!).
2) There are NO RULES!!

Carve your digital pumpkin in any way you like. Choose a different pumpkin if you like. Change the background, change colours, and get creative in your own unique way. Submit as many pumpkins as you would like!

Here's the original pumpkin image to start with:

Here are a few helpful tips:

1) If, when removing the background, you find a strange edge to the pumpkin, use the defringe option in Photoshop (Menu: Layer>Matting>Defringe... (2 pixels))

2) If using a dark and eerie background, you can use the levels or curves adjustments to darken your pumpkin too.

3) Adding glow to the ground may be effective

4) Perhaps the most helpful tip of all... For those of you who do not fancy yourselves as digital artists, I've whipped up a special treat for you. Head on over to the PhotographyBB Actions page, and you'll find a digital pumpkin carving action there for you to play with - FREE! Now how's that for some good fun?

I hope you have a ball with this... Happy Halloween!

I don't know how to carve a pumpkin so I put a little bit of me in this and then ran Dave's Illustration action in Elements. (Dave- the carving action does not work in Elements.)

All right, I'll play. I have no idea what I am doing; I just kept clicking things until something cool happened (and I can't predict what any of the features/tools are - CS3 has SO many more tools than any I'd used before).

Hope y'all like it.
